Localive is a public service initiative that was created by Dan Johnstone to help locally-owned businesses attract new customers, showcase their brand to a new audience, and host unique events (Localive Days) at their establishment. Localive also offers local consumers exclusive deals that you can’t get anywhere else and an inside look at different businesses around Edmonton. Localive‘s services were created as Dan believes in a healthy, diverse, vibrant, and strong local economy.
Jobs – Alberta is lucky enough to have thousands of unique, locally-owned businesses, which in turn, help create thousands of jobs for its residents. Localive isn’t just about supporting our brave entrepreneurs, but it’s about supporting “Bill and Patty” who live down the street, who work at the locally run cafe on the corner of 23rd Ave. It’s about saving those jobs and keeping our local economy strong.
Local benefits – On top of creating jobs and various forms of employment, studies have shown that locally-owned businesses spend more of their dollars locally as opposed to at big box stores, creating the “Local Multiplier Effect.” Locally owned businesses more often than not shop for ingredients, resources, and products from other local vendors close to home rather than ordering in from other countries.
Vibrant Alberta – It’s no secret that unique and interesting businesses are good for tourism. Our towns and cities are trying very hard to become viable tourist destinations, and we can’t achieve this without having a unique and vibrant local business sector. Many studies show that tourists would prefer to visit a locally-owned businesses over a franchise or chain.
Charity initiatives – Once again, studies show that local businesses are proportionately more generous in their support of local charities, schools, and community events. Supporting local shops means a positive financial impact on your community.
Better service – This one is a no-brainer as we all love customer service – we all like to be treated like we’re the most important customer in the world. Did you know that locally-owned businesses score (on average) much higher in customer service “secret shopper” tests and surveys? Locally-owned businesses NEED your business as opposed to chain/franchises who WANT your business. You would be surprised by the quality of customer service you would receive when you shop local.
